Meet Sean McCarthy

Sean is a 33 year veteran of local law enforcement & a current police commissioner of the Port Washington Police District. A lifelong North Hempstead resident, Sean has spent more than three decades protecting our communities, serving as Commanding Officer in both the Third & Sixth Precincts of the Nassau County Police Department before achieving his highest rank as Chief of Support Services. Sean’s parents moved to North Hempstead from the Bronx in 1957 to raise him and his four siblings in a town which prized faith, education, volunteerism, supporting local business and cherishing your neighbors. These values stayed with Sean his entire life and fueled his passion for public service.

Sean grew up knowing not to take anything for granted. He worked odd jobs as a teen on Plandome Road in Manhasset and waited tables in Roslyn before becoming a police officer. Upon his graduation from the Police Academy in 1985, he was assigned to the Sixth Precinct. He worked his way up the ranks and with each promotion, Sean became an expert in operations and management, entrusted with important leadership roles. In 2012, he was promoted to Inspector and became Commanding Officer of the Third Precinct. From there, Sean went on to command the combined Third/Sixth Precincts. In 2015, Sean moved to Headquarters to serve as the Executive Officer of the Patrol Division. Before retiring from the NCPD in 2018, Sean was promoted to Chief of Support Services.
